In June 2020, I was honored to be a guest speaker on the Healing Charlotte Podcast with Katie Overcash of Overcash Therapy Services, PLLC, www.katieovercash.com. During this podcast we focus specifically on my work with couples utilizing EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy developed by Dr. Sue Johnson). EFT is a modality that helps couples identify patterns of communication, strengthen their relationship, and learn to work together to come up with their own solutions. Many couples struggle to really hear what their partner is trying to communicate. EFT helps in slowing down the communication process and assists couples in really hearing each other and identifying the ways they are "missing" each other in communication efforts.
If you would like to listen you can find this podcast on Apple, Spotify, Google, TuneIn, and Stitcher under "Healing Charlotte." Katie has interviewed numerous healers in Charlotte over this past year so you will also find many topics that may be of interest to you.
**When we did this podcast in June of 2020 I wouldn't have expected for our world to still be where it is today in February 2021. Over the past months, a lot of my work with couples, and individual therapy as well, has focused on improving self-calming strategies and developing interpersonal mindfulness skills. These strategies are helpful in preparing for and during difficult conversations. Interpersonal mindfulness includes listening to your partner without an agenda, suspending expectations of outcomes, being open to new connections and information, and using breathing to calm the nervous system and slow down the communication. These strategies help us focus on understanding and choosing how to respond versus reacting when becoming flooded with emotion. During this extraordinary time in our world these same strategies can assist us in all areas of our lives.
